Endometrial Ablation

Her Option® Endometrial Ablation for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB)

Are heavy periods affecting your quality of life? If so, you’re not alone. One in four women age 15-50 suffer from heavy periods due to abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). Excessive menstrual bleeding can be emotionally and physically draining for women. It may even prevent you from completing your day-to-day activities. Her Option® endometrial ablation is a modern in-office treatment that can provide relief from the effects of AUB.

What are the symptoms of AUB?

Every woman’s menstrual cycle is different, which means that some women have heavier periods than others. A typical menstrual period occurs every 25-31 days and lasts 4-5 days. Women with AUB may experience more frequent or irregular periods with heavy bleeding that lasts more than 7 days.

You may have heavy bleeding if you:

  • Regularly soak through sanitary protection.
  • Require double protection to control menstrual flow.
  • Avoid normal daily activities for fear of an accident.
  • Have accidents with overflow onto your clothing or bedding.

Additional symptoms of AUB may include severe cramping, large blood clots in your flow, tiredness, and fatigue. If you are experiencing these symptoms, it’s time to seek help.

What is Her Option® and how does it treat AUB?

In the past, treatment options for AUB were limited to hysterectomy or hormone therapy. Her Option® is a minimally invasive treatment that reduces or eliminates menstrual flow without the need for major surgery or synthetic hormones.

Dr. Rose performs Her Option® endometrial ablation therapy in the comfort of our office. During the procedure, the uterine lining is treated with a sub-zero temperature applicator. When the lining of the uterus is reduced or eliminated, there is less tissue to shed during your period. This results in a drastic decrease in menstrual bleeding.

What are the advantages of Her Option®?

Her Option® is an FDA-approved procedure covered under most health insurance plans. Many women choose Her Option® because it has a high success rate. In clinical studies, 94% of Her Option® endometrial ablation treatments were successful. Patients who undergo treatment often report decreased menstrual flow and improvements in PMS symptoms such as cramping, irritability, and fatigue.

Her Option® is an in-office treatment that results in fewer complications and less pain when compared to traditional methods of ablation that require hospitalization and anesthesia. The procedure typically takes 20 to 30 minutes and there is minimal downtime. Most women can resume normal activities the next day.
